The first class of the 9-month Mine Fellowship has already come and gone. Thursday May 22nd was the day the fellows finally got to showcase their hard work and talent to the Tulsa community. The anticipation and excitement about the projects from the audience and program supporters floated through the air as more than 100 young professionals, employers, philanthropic funders, entrepreneurs and family and friends of Mine fellows filled the auditorium anxiously awaiting to hear from an all star cast.
The first Mine team to present was called One Giant Leap. They created innovative online quizzes for parents to assess their child’s development and promote regular and preventative care. They blew the audience away when they were able to actually walk the audience through one of the quizzes online and are already in the processes of establishing themselves as an LLC.
The second Mine team was The Bridge, who worked along side the Tulsa Area United Way’s New Venture Grant to stimulate sustainable social entrepreneurship through a concept testing model in which they were able to test this method by hosting a pitch competition and funded 5 projects in the Tulsa community.
Lastly, the final presentations were concluded with a guest speaker Arthur Woods who is COO & Co-founder of Imperative, a social benefit corporation with a mission to connect people to purpose on a massive scale. He spoke to the audience about what it means to have a purpose and how purpose is changing the way people view their personal and professional lives and that in the past for other generations there was much more distance between the two. But now we are entering in a new generation of the workforce where people define themselves more by what they do and want to be fulfilled in ways other generations have not.
The conclusion of the afternoon led to a fun reception afterwards enjoying wonderful food and drinks from Laffa and networking with fellow guests as everyone continued to chat about the amazing topics from the presentations.
